Patients that present with pelvic pain usually note pain in the front of the body, from the hips to the groin region. The pelvis can cause pain in the front and the low back (in the gluteal region) and can be from many causes.

The pelvis is composed of three bones: the sacrum, and two ilia on either side that wrap around to the front of the body and form a joint. Very often patients present with low back pain or hip pain that may actually be occurring in the pelvis. It is commonplace for pregnant women, patients that sit the majority of their day, and athletes to have problems occur.

The pain in the pelvis usually come from the joints in the pelvis (the sacroiliac joints and the pubic symphysis) or the muscles and ligaments surrounding the area.
